Ukraine War Caused Ottawa to Realize Military Lacks Key Equipment; What Else Could Be Lacking?

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) came to realize it was lacking such equipment as anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles as well as systems to protect against drones.
The military is now rushing to buy these weapon systems, known to be pivotal for defence capabilities. But it raises the question of what other areas CAF would come up short in should armed conflict occur, catching Canada off guard.
“The big challenge that we face in Canada is that there is still this underlying element of our political leadership that basically thinks that war is not thinkable,” said defence policy expert Robert Huebert, an associate professor of political science at the University of Calgary, in an interview….
