Japan Calls for ‘Immediate Suspension’ of Chinese Military Drills

Japan’s prime minister on Friday called for the “immediate suspension” of Chinese military drills around Taiwan after five ballistic missiles fired by China landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with visiting U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for talks centered on Taiwan tensions, as China increased its military drills in response to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan this week.
Kishida told Pelosi that China’s recent missile launches presented a “serious threat” to regional peace and stability, and urged Beijing to immediately cease military drills surrounding Taiwan.
China fired 11 ballistic missiles into waters near Taiwan on Thursday, the same day that Pelosi arrived in Japan for the final leg of her Asian trip. Japan claimed that five missiles landed in its exclusive economic zone….
