The Arab League on Wednesday didn’t pass on a resolution proposed by the Palestinian Authority (PA) which could have disputed the normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Times of Israel reports.
“Following a three-hour debate, some Arab countries refused to add [a] statement [that the UAE] for abandoning Arab choices. Additionally, they struck out a clause which discussed the trilateral arrangement” between the UAE, the US, and Israel, the PA representative to the Arab League, Muhannad al-Aklouk, was quoted as having told the Ma’an news agency.
Senior Arab League official Hussam Zaki explained,”Discussion around this point was serious and comprehensive. However, it didn’t result in agreement over the resolution suggested by the Palestinians.”
Zaki reported the PA agents had insisted they would either accept a condemnation of the arrangement or no statement on the problem whatsoever.
“A number of amendments were suggested, after which counter-amendments…and we had been at a point in which Palestinian demands hadn’t been attained, along with the Palestinians chose it to not pass rather than have it pass in a manner which they believed to be inadequate,” Zaki said.
