5 Killed in South Carolina Mass Murder; Suspect ID’d as Former NFL Player

A mass shooting Wednesday afternoon at a home near Rock Hill in York County, South Carolina, left five people dead, including two children, according to authorities. The shooting was reported at around 4:45 p.m. near a house on Marshall Road and involved a family and a worker inside the home, according to a statement from the York County Sheriff’s Office. Police identified the victims as a prominent doctor, Robert Lesslie, his wife, Barbara Lesslie, and their two grandchildren, aged 5 and 9, and James Lewis of Gastonia. Lewis was working at the home at the time of the shooting and was struck by the gunfire, police said. All of the victims died as a result of gunshot wounds. A sixth person also was injured in the shooting and taken to a hospital.
